Garcia, 1971: Lazaro Frank Griego, b. 1888, Mexico. Cuento: Los dos hermanos (why the ocean is salty, a poor man goes to rich brother for help, brother turns him down, poor man finds a large ham, exchanges it for a magic mill that gives him everything he asks for, man's son goes in navy, takes the mill, is killed by pirates, they ask mill to make salt to sell when get to port, don't know magic words to stop it, so mill continues to make salt in the ocean water today, folk tale, explanatory tale, episodes cont. at CD 181).
Amador, 1973: Ricardo Swan, b. 1920, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Una cuchara nueva (a poor man is eating at a rich man's home and is told the price of every item on the table, the poor man invites the rich man to his home so he can show him a new spoon that he uses for every mouthful of food, the rich man goes to the poor man's home and is shown spoons made out of the same tortilla they are using to eat the food, poverty, folk tale); 2. El cabezudo y San Antonio (a man is going into town and meets San Antonio, who asks the man where he is going, the man says he is going into town, the saint - santo turns the man into a frog and throws him in a pond, later, he asks the man where he is going, I am going into town or into the pond, folk tale); 3. El labrador y San Antonio (a man goes into church and asks an image of St. Anthony to get him a job or else he will come and destroy the image with his ax, anecdote); 4. La muchacha orgullosa (a young lady is very vain and thinks only of her beauty, no one can handle her until her grandmother sends her three pictures, the young girl is shocked out of her arrogance and vanity and becomes most pliable, folk tale, women); 5. Todos hijos o todos entenados (a woman cannot understand why three orphans that she has adopted look healthier and are stronger than her very own children, she feeds them better than her children, women, family, folk tale); 6.El borracho y el cura (a drunk goes to confession and shows the priest a bottle of wine, he tells the priest to join him, the priest is shocked and invokes the holy names of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, the drunk tells the priest to quiet down, not to call the whole neighborhood, that there will not be wine enough for all, anecdote); 7. Los dos picaros (a girl with a cold sore on her lip is on a train with her chaperon, a rogue bets his friend that he can kiss the girl, he tells the chaperon that he has healing powers in his kisses and would like to cure the girl's cold sore with a kiss, the chaperon tells the rogue that she herself is suffering from hemorrhoids, could he kiss them and make them go away also, women, anecdote); 8. Los manofashicos (two Black, African American simpletons, are hunting grasshoppers with a 22 caliber rifle, one shoots and kills the other, folk tale); 9. Los manofashicos de trampes (two manofashicos get to a farm house and are asked to chop wood before being fed, one gets an ax and starts chopping a log and accidentally hits his companion on an ankle, he jumps like an acrobat, folk tale); 10. San Pedro (St. Peter is sent to hell but mortifies all the devils by making the sign of the cross in their faces, when Satan complains, the Lord tells St. Peter that He will turn him into a rock, folk tale); 11. Bertoldo (the king has sentenced Bertoldo to die, Bertoldo asks the king for a last wish, Bertoldo asks to choose the tree from which he is to hang, he selects a sapling just planted and the king will have to wait some thirty years before hanging Bertoldo, the king appoints Bertoldo councilor in his court, folk tale); 12. El que queria morir de viejez (a man is given a choice as to how he would like to die, he wants to die of old age, folk tale); 13. El pintor de la ultima cena (a painter paints a portrait of The Last Supper but unthinkingly paints thirteen apostles, folk tale, anecdote); 14. El judio errante (while Jesusis on the way to His crucifiction, a Jew kept urging him to hurry up and get going, annoyed Jesus tells the Jew that he, Christ, will go on but for the Jew to wait until he returns, to this day the Jew is still wandering, looking for Christ to return, to ask Him for forgiveness, folk tale, Jewish).

Siete estados bajo tierra (a king has a daughter hidden in a dungeon and has promised her hand in marriage to anyone who will go down there and entertain her, a Mexican man and a boy make a musical instrument and find her, folk tale); 2. El que hizo reir a la princesa (Part I, a young man goes out to look for his fortune and meets an old man that sells him three bits of advice, the young man gets to a palace where suitors are trying to make a princess laugh, he succeeds and marries the princess, folk tale).
