Scope and Contents
Sousa, 1970: Sofia Gurule, b. 1893, Placitas, NM. 1. Genoveva de Brabante (Part II, after the king writes to Golo to banish the queen, Golo has her taken to the forest and killed, the men take pity on Genoveva and spare her life, long after the king returns home, finds out the truth about Genoveva, punishes those reponsible for her suffering and unites the family once again, folk tale, see CD 102); 2. Rafaelito y Carmencita (New Mexican version of the Hansel and Gretel folk tale, almost all the incidents happening to the two protagonists in the story as told in English, folk tale, children, see CD 102 and CD 173).
Rinaldi, 1970: Filomeno Lucero, b. 1891, Bernalillo, NM. 1. Entriego de novios (good recording, Bernalillo, New Mexico version of marriage, wedding song); 2. Recuerdo de un gran presidente (good to fair recording, New Mexico corrido, Lucero composed, her sings ballad reviewing all the good President John F. Kennedy did for his country); 3. Entriega de San Lorenzo (good to fair recording, sings to the old and new sponsors taking charge of the ceremonies connected with the feast of San Lorenzo, patron saint of Bernalillo, New Mexico, August 10, fiesta, matachines dances); 4. Entriega de San Luis Gonzaga (good to fair recording, the Dominguez family initiate a movement to build a chapel in honor of San Luis Gonzaga, patron saint of sailors, village people all help and build the chapel, community cooperation).
Sousa, 1970: Aurelia Gurule, b. 1891, Placitas, NM. 1. Juan Relosito (a young girl goes to a circus and is kidnapped by a bear who takes the girl to his cave, Juan Oso, they have a baby boy who grows with supernatural strength, named Juan Relosito, he performs a number of tasks for a king and marries the princess, women, folk tale); 2. Abrete, Se sena (Part I, Open sesame, a New Mexican version of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, cont. in CD 148, folk tale).
