Cobos, 1974: Ricardo Sandoval, b. 1910, Albuquerque, NM. 1. El quelite, a fragmment; Me canse de rogarle (love song, missing his woman, commentary, good recording, women); 2. Cancion mixteca (good recording, guitar accompaniment, sad song, nostalgia); 3. Malaguena (love song, women from Malaga, Spain, good recording, cuts off abruptly); 4. Recuerdos de Martineztown, Albuquerque (a few memories of life in 1930s, mentions Fidel Martinez, gordo, a wheeler and dealer, died; Maggie); 5. La golondrina (good recording, love song, farwell).
Ruben Cobos, b. 1911, Mexico. 1. Noche de ronda (good recording, old ballad, Cobos Ruben sings with Gonzalo Martinez), ; 2. El hijo desobediente (good recording, son gets in fight, father interferes, muerte, death, Cobos with Martinez); 3. La barca de oro (good recording, Cobos with Martinez, a Mexican song of farewell).
Rael, 1974: Ramos Duran, b. 1915, Picuris, NM. Good to fair recording. 1. Duran and Joseph Rael, b. 1935, Los matachines (played by Durn on violin, Rael explains Pueblo music, in English, Pueblos learned tradition from the Spanish, who brought it to New World from Spain and Europe, Indian took up Spanish customs, used violin, guidar, drums, here explains both Pueblo and Hispanic versions of matachines presented at Picuris Pueblo, played at Jemez, on Christmas day, Navidad; Ramos Duran sings Indian song, accompanied by drums and other voices, commentary; Joseph talks about history of Picuris, oral history, Tigua language, Spanish, population decline, Cuartelejo; Ramos Duran leader of Pueblo; 2. Cantos de indios (music from Picuris, some chanting, see also CD 122)
