Scope and Contents
Isabel Martinez, b. 1925, Chimayo, NM. 1. Bertoldo y el rey (Bertoldo asks the king which is lighter, daylight or milk, folk tale); 2. Dos amigos en la borrega (two friends out herding sheep make fires, each goes to his part of the camp, one sees a cat that talks to him twice, the frightened man leaves the fires looking for his companion, his friend has turned himself into a cat, supernatural story, witches); 3. Cuento de brujas (people going to a dance in Truchas see two large fires on the way and throw rocks at them, further on another fire tells the people not to proceed, to go back home, once home they learn a neighbor woman has been hit and killed by a car, they figure they killed one of the witches with their rocks, women).
Miguel Martinez, b. 1921, Chimayo, NM. Cuento de Juan (Juan is going home on the way from buying commodities in Truchas, something takes off the horses' halter and he is unable to proceed home with the wagon, leaves on foot, two woman are caught next day getting his groceries, Juan figures they are the witches, witch story).

Patricio Cruz, b. 1897, Chimayo, NM. Entriega de novios y versos (poor recording, Chimayo version of the New Mexican entriega de novios, wedding, marriage, and adds some versos used in the dance game of valse chiquiao, chiquiado).
Trinidad Ortega, b. 1920, Chimayo, NM. 1. La tasolera ardiendo (relato, supernatural, one night Trinidad saw a shed on fire and wonders why the owners did not come out of their house and put out the fire, next day no one is able to tell him anything about the fire, unknown); 2. Adivinanzas (two riddles, one on telling time, clock).
Ofelia Ortega, b. 1930, Chimayo, NM. 1. Adivinanza (riddle, no solution given); 2. Rezos (three folk prayers, one for San Cristobal).
Miguel Martinez, b. 1921, Chimayo, NM. El gato y el borreguito (a cat and a lamb leave their homes in search of adventure and meet each other out in the countryside, as they go along talking, they find two lions' heads, become frightened, and start running, related incidents, folk tale, incomplete).
Isabel Martinez, b. 1925, Chimayo, NM. Los bueyecitos (a Chimayo version of this popular New Mexican folk tale, brothers seeking futures are turned into oxen, their sister breaks the spell and saves them, later marries the king, women successes).
