Scope and Contents

Anonymous Mexican group, Albuquerque, NM, 1973. 1. Commercial recordings, good quality. Las tipicas posadas mexicanas (an indoor presentation of Las Posadas, by a group going house to house, Christmas pageant, Navidad, Cobos said excellent recording, Mexico); 2. La pinata (same group, at the nineth house in the posada procession, goes indoors for celebration, singing versos, quatrains used in the game of pinata are sung here, children, game).

Anonymous group. Good recording. 1. Quien les da posada (Las Posadas, pageant in which two groups of players enact the seeking of shelter by Joseph and Mary the evening of the birth of Christ, one asking shelter, the second refusing to help, eight times, a nineth house shelter is given, and celebration begins indoors, Navidad, Christmas pageant); Fair recording here after. 2. Cantos de Los pastores, shepherd play (Cuando por el oriente, opening song or introduction to this Christmas drama, folk song); Venid pastorcillos (one of the most beautiful villancicos used in the pageant, Christmas carols, folk song); Ofrecimiento (the shepherds going up to the manger and offering their gifts to the Christ child in Bethlehem, folk song, includes recitation); Levantada de Bertoldo (the lazy shepherd, comic element in Los Pastores, Christmas song); Vamos a Belen, Bethlehem (the shepherds encourage each other to disregard dissention among the group and continue on to render homage to the Christ child, Christmas song; Gracias a Maria (the shepherds give thanks to Virgin Mary for the birth of the Christ child, Christmas song); Cancion de cuna (the Virgin Mary sings this lullaby to the new born child Jesus, cradle song); Adios Jose, adios Maria (the shepherds take leave of Joseph and Mary and the baby, as they return to their flocks near Bethlehem).
