Delfino Martinez, b. 1900, Grants, NM. 1. El padrastro malo, Part II (continued from CD 118, stepson cattleman meets a stranger, turns out to be his stepfather); 2. Manofashico (a simple man is cutting a tree branch while sitting on the wrong side of the branch, another man tells him he will fall, the simple man does fall and runs after the man who gave him the advice, thinking he was God, anecdote); 3. El diablo se aparece a un hombre (a man goes to a dance one evening, on his way to the dance he meets up with a stranger who tells him just how to act at the dance, the stranger turns out to be the devil himself, supernatural story).

Gabrielita Valdez, b. 1887, Albuquerque, NM. 1. El pelegrino pobre (in verse, a poor man knocks at the door of a castle on a cold winter night, the owner does not let him in, owner goes out next day and finds the poor man dead, he is haunted by the event and hears the words of the previous night every night, folk tale, ghost story, greed, muerte); 2. La mona en un nogal (a she monkey climbs up a walnut tree and bites into a green walnut, learns bitter lesson, maxim); 3. Arbol que crece torcido, tree cannot correct self or do good, vices of mankind, maxim in poetic form, children, discipline).

Teresa Lucero, b. 1897, Albuquerque, NM. 1. San Jose (a couple always have a wake for St. Joseph, but this year one of their sons died, the father goes out for wood and meets a stranger who tells him to have a wake for St. Joseph that year or the second son will die, too, so they have the wake, but the second son dies soon after, father meets the stranger again, who says better they die young and go to heaven than become a thief or bandit, folk tale, muerte, death, funeral, velorio); 2. El Santuario de Chimayo (a crippled man visits chapel of Chimayo, there he leaves a gold chain and watch as sacrifice for cure, he comes back home cured and claims that it only cost him a gold chain and watch, upon saying this he cannot get up and walk, finds the chain and watch back in his bedroom, supernatural story, deceit, faith, mystery, religion, church); 3. El crucifijo (a man is digging dirt to make adobes and finds a crucifix, he takes the crucifix home, next day the crucifix reappears at the same place where the man was digging, the people build a chapel there and name it San Esquipula, supernatural story, Chimayo, miracle, mystery); 4. El piojo y la liendre (frament, recited, good to fair recording, see CD 117).
