Teresa Lucero, b. 1897, Albuquerque, NM. Cuento de brujas (a Mexican national offers to cure a bewitched woman by converting himself into a dog, witch story, see CD 120).
Delfino Martinez, b. 1900, Grants, NM. Cuento de brujas en Manzano, New Mexico. (just before a very ill lady dies a pigeon comes in the room and flies all around, a spot on woman's back also disappears, witch story, in Manzano, in English)
Teresa Lucero, b. 1897, Albuquerque, NM. 1. El piojo y la liendre (good to fair recording, folk ballad, she recites a verse and then tells the rest of the story, marriage of the two); 2. La mula esteril (folk tale, the mule in the manger is scared when Jesus is born and God punishes mules by making them sterile, Christmas, Navidad); 3. Por que no tienen cola los osos (folk tale, fishing on a frozen lake, a bear sticks his tail in an ice hole and it freezes, that is why a bear has no tail).
Carmelita Lucero, b. 1897, Albuquerque, NM. 1. El compadre rico y el pobre (folk tale, a poor compadre owes the rich compadre 25 cents, the poor compadre plays dead, people come to the wake and leave money, both compadres split the money between them, folk tale, muerte, funeral); 2. Los indios se roban dos chicos de Corrales (relato, Carmelita tells how the Navajos steal, stole people at Corrales, New Mexico, example of man who escaped from them followed North Star to a village, scared the people there, Navajos arrived later asking for escaped man, cautivo, captive, Native American Indian); 3. El tesoro de Las Sandias, Sandia Mountains (relato, she tells of her father who was a sheep herder, he found a cave with silver and gold, two Indians in the cave, they cover father's head and turn him around and around, he is afraid of them and leaves, Sandia Mountains, mining, treasure); 4. Malvas, Romero, vino (folk tale, a woman has a lover named Malvas, one day her husband comes home and she knows her lover is coming to visit her, too, she puts some herbs on the path, and further along, a glass of wine, lover thinks this means Malvas va, Romero vino, Romero came, play on words, vino, language, women, folk tale).
Margarita Mascarenas Jaramillo, b. 1909, Raton, NM. 1. Maria grande and Maria chiquita (Maria Chiquita's stepmother sends her to the river to wash some entrails, a fish comes along and eats one intestine, the fairy god mother puts a shiny star on her forehead, folk tale, compare to Cinderella); 2. Las pelonotas (folk tale, variant of Cinderella, pelonatas are the stepsisters, she marries prince and is happy. inspite of how bad step sisters treat Cinderellas she treats them well, lesson for children, that receive reward if treat others kindly, women, moral story); 3. El pajaro verde (three sons are fighting over an inheritance, then a woman meets a girl feeding a sick bird she has in a cage, the old woman gives the girl three gold chicks to let her enter the cage and cure the sick bird, the bird flies out and turns into a prince who marries the girl, folk tale); 4.
