Joe Davis, b. 1902, Galisteo, NM. 1. El pirujo (a queer goes to a bar and asks for a beer, the bartender tells him to ask for it with balls, the queer then tells the bartender for a beer with balls, anecdote, homosexual); 2. El perezozo (village bum is to be buried alive, is offered food by the grocer, if it is uncooked, can't eat it, rather continue with the burial, folk tale, muerte); 3. Los tiros (one woman at a wake lets out some gas, some men hear the expelled gas, anecdote, muerte); 4. El perico (parrot and wood, see CD 103, folk tale); 5. El vino Oporto (a man orders wine at a bar, calling it olporto, old port, asks for a second glass of same, then asked for a glass of New Port minutes later,anecdote); 6. El borracho (a man in a bar asks the bartender for a blank check, the bartender asks him for what bank, the drunk says that it makes no difference, all banks have money, anecdote).
Rev. Julian Duran, b. 1898, Dixon, NM. 1. Biografia (personal biography, he states his father had wagons for freight and carretelas - buggies for pleasure rides, when he a boy only the very poor used donkeys in their work); 2. El tio (relato, a grand uncle tells nephew and cousin if go out really early to cut trees, trees will exclaim, I hope the man likes it, no matter how early went never heard trees talk); 3. El viejito Dixon (relato, town of Dixon, New Mexico, origin of town, named after El Diques, a failed mining prospector who became a teacher, he well respected by villagers, paid in kind by parents of his students, related humous incident, education, school); 4. Costumbres (customs of Dixon, New Mexico, at turn of the century - early twentieth century, 1900s, farming work done in common by villagers, shared labor, if hoes of two men touched, two had wrestiling match as entertainment, leisure, describes the lunch, la merienda, served to workers in the fields, mentions Spanish bunuelos, fry bread, fritters, food, cooking, labor); 5. El patron (relato, a paid worker complains to his boss about moving a pile of bricks to one place and back again, being paid for following orders, obeying his employer, work, job, employment); 6. Las munecas (relato, Santa Claus, the Cruz girls receive American type dolls with dresses and blue eyes for Christmas, after Christmas the girls go into the corral and put the doll dresses on their goats); 7. La politica (relato, in the past all politicians needed to win office was a large family and relatives, story of a candidate so stupid he forgets what office he is running for, county commissioner, politics, family).
