Gonzalez, 1970: Sembronio Gonzalez, b. 1902, Los Duranes, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Los que iban a la boda (anecdote, on way to wedding for Dona Juana, one compadre tells other to serve conservatively because marriage has cost him much money already); 2. El caballo, el Perrodo (anecdote, two compadres share a horse, nicknamed El Perrodo because it expels gas, after one man dies, other goes to offer condolences to widow and asks for El Perrodo); 3. El hombre que fue pa Juarez (anecdote, man tells friend there are virgin girls in Juarez, Mexico, friend goes to Juarez establishment asked the lady for a small one (girl), she sends him a queer, homosexual, women, brothel, misunderstanding, language); 4. La del zacate (anecdote, a man arouses his girl to point of intimacy and she complains that the grass is hurting her, women, sex); 5. El hombre que le compuso la casa a una mujer (anecdote, man stuccos house for his lady friend, that night in bedroom making love, he discusses the stucco on the ceiling, humous, women, sex); 6. Los bulegas (conversation, Sembronio talks about making home made corn whiskey and wine, good and bad, how color tinted and sold, drinking, liquor); 7. El ojo del buey (customs, predicting weather, rain or dry day, by looking at the size of rings of the rainbow and around the moon, sky).
Adela Barela, b. 1894, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Versos (nine verses, some bilingual, folk poetry, one about a girl's ponytail, chongo); 2. Adivinanzas (two riddles, one about el dinero, money); 3. Juego (nursery game, pipis and gallo, children); 4. Verso de diez (nursery rhymes, one about counting and two more); 5. Canto de Los Pastores (good to fair recording, recited, shepherds, Navidad, Christmas, folk song).
Carmen Espinosa, Carmelita Espinosa, b. 1898, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Versitos para ninos (two nursery rhymes, one about the toy rag doll cat, repents again and again, children); 2. El erizo y la liebre (the rabbitt and the hedge hog, he tricks the rabbit, wins race, variant of the tortoise and the hare, folk tale); 3. El zapatero pobre (a poor shoemaker cobbler and wife have a baby, child's compadres give them a new house, but they are unhappy, return to their former old home, folk tale, poverty, simple life); 4. La fiera del rosal (a king's rose gift to one daughter turns out to be bewitched, folk tale, women); 5. Adivinanza (riddle, Cain, Abel, Adam and Eve and Earth, she said a Mr. Sandoval taught it to her).
Padilla, 1970: Emilia Chavez, b. 1910, Los Padillas, NM. 1. El aguila y el coyote (an eagle wants to eat a coyote, he invites the coyote to a dance in heaven, and flies him up there and then drops him to the ground, the coyote's reply, folk tale); 2. Verses and riddles, folk poetry; 3. San Pedro, el mejicano y el Americano (St. Peter, the Mexican and the American, folk tale, the two men want to get into heaven, American rides the Mexican, who disguises self as a horse, St. Peter lets in the man, not the horse); 4. El perico que compro lena (folk tale); 5. El que queria conocer el tren (a woman does not know what a train is, She is told that it is something black with smoke, she sees a Black man smoking and jumps on him piggy back thinking the Black African American man will take her to California, anecdote); 6. El que queria casarse con una princesa (a king procrastinates in the marriage of his daughter so long the man suiter becomes an old man, folk tale, marriage, love, women); 7. El borracho que se perdia (a man gets drunk often and cannot find his home, he hangs a lantern outside his home and finds his wife with another man in the process, anecdote, women, marriage); 8. Un cura que se enamoro de una que iba a misa (a priest who fell in love with a girl at Mass, takes her to the forest, makes love to her, meanwhile man up in tree watching them, church, folk tale).
Mares, 1970: Lucy Gutierrez, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Un borracho y el policia (a drunkard grabs a telephone post and says to a policeman, Waiting for my house to go by so I can go in, anecdote, drinking); 2. Un borracho entra en una iglesia (a drunkard walks into a church while priest hearing confessions, tells a statue to offer drinks to everyone including the priest, church, religion, drinking, anecdote); 3. El loco (a man is walking with his wheelbarrow upside down, if he turns it over it will be filled with bricks, anecdote).
Solidea L. Mares, Taos, NM. 1. La esposa infiel (the unfaithful wife, man out getting wood comes home and finds his wife with her boyfriend, boyfriend hids in a Box next to a santo, husband lights a candle next to man's feet and he has to run out, folk tale, women); 2. Dos mejicanos y un tejano (two Mexicans and a Texan are jumping out of an airplane by parachute, Mexicanos ask the Virgin of Guadalupe for a safe landing, Tejano says me, too, Lupe, folk tale, Texas); 3. El hombre y el perico (an annoyed man flushes his parrot down the toilet, parrot mets a cat, what parrot says, anecdote); 4. Una tragedia (relato, tragedy strikes two families after a wedding dance, the main men in marriage party are killed in a gun fight, families Duran and Sanchez, muerte, death); 5. El hombre celoso (a man is very jealous of his wife with other men, so he decides to leave town with his wife and their cow, when cow is sad, wife says don't worry there are bulls in the new town, too, anecdote, women).
Amado Salazar, Albuquerque, NM. El hombre de la bandera (a man leaves home and gets a job as a flagman, he writes home and tells his wife he has lavandera, a wash woman, instead of writing la bandera, play on words, language, creates a problem for him at home, humorous, anecdote).
