Scope and Contents

Cinelli, 1971: Sam Baca, Albuquerque, NM. Good recording. 1. Experiencia con un joso, oso (anecdote, man is out hunting, says to himself God in front and I follow, when he sees a bear behind him he says I in front and God behind me); 2. Rezo, prayer (to Jesus, Mary and Joseph, good example for New Mexico); 3. El rico que no queria morir (anecdote, the rich man who does not want to die, tries many tricks to avoid Death, fails, muerte, death).

Cenelli, 1971: Max Roybal, b. 1906, Albuquerque, NM 1. Un oso, folk tale (a bear is killing livestock, a man offers to bring in the bear, does so by having the bear chase after him into the village, asks what are you going to do with it?); 2. Eso si que es (the buying of socks by a simple sheepherder who doesn't speak English); 3. Cacaseno, Pedro de Urdemalas, folk tale (Cacaseno over feeds mother with chaquegue, killing her, tricks neighbor into paying for her funeral, death, muerte; and other adventures; 4. Poemas (two, the first is Gracia, a thanksgiving verse, the second, a love poem).

Cinelli, 1971: Ida Mercado, b. 1886, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Vente, borracho, conmigo (Come drunkard with me, folk song, with lyrics only, good to fair recording); 2. Tus ojos (good to fair recording, your eyes, recited, love song with lyrics only).

Martinez, 1969: Mrs. Abedon Martinez, b. 1909, Springer, NM. 1. Los viejitos y la muerte (the seniors and death, aging, muerte, the taking of a fat pig instead, folk tale, see CD 26); 2. Dos compadres (two friends, folk tale); 3. El adivino (the seer and deceiver, folk tale).

Chavez, 1972: Carlos Garcia, b. 1893, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Conversacion, fair recording. (Part I, reminiscence, former resident of Mora area discusses his educational experiences at the turn of the century, education, children).
