Scope and Contents
Witt: Marcella Larragoite, b. 1950, Albuquerque. NM. 1. El solterito, little soltero, recited (folk song, man compares his life, as married man and as a bachelor, women); 2. Rimas (four verses, folk poetry, versos, gallinero, gallinas); 3. Adivinanzas, (riddles, three, la boca, la semana santa, unas y el piojo); 4. La Llorona, (ghost story, after a woman's husband dies, she cannot support her seven children and drowns them, heard crying in the river and acequia for them, family, women).
Lara: Bert de Lara, Albuquerque, NM. Versos (good recording, folk poetry, verses from the valse chiquiado, chiquiado, and four dichos ).
Snell: Arnoldo Xavier Fernandez, b. 1949, McAllen, Texas. Good recording. El dinero escondido durante la revolution, in 1911 during the Mexican Revolution Arnoldo's grandparents had a small treasure in their house, when bandits came for it the soldiers drove them out, in meantime an uncle had previously stolen the family treasure).
Snell: Mike Sandoval, b. 1949, McAllen, Texas. El ruido en un rio, folk tale (horseman finds a baby along a river, baby has large teeth and finger nails).
Snell: Arnoldo Xavier Fernandez, b. 1949, McAllen, Texas. Good recording. 1. El que murio enfermo de susto (ghost story, an old man decides to check out a mysterious light, dies shortly thereafter of fright from what he saw); 2. La presumida y la viejita (folk tale, a conceited woman does not help an old woman home, goes home and looks upon a mirror, sees herself with the face of the old woman, women); 3. La bruja y el gato (witch story, some boys catch a cat, beat it up and sew its eyes shut, later a woman thought to be a witch is seen as beaten up with eyes that appear to have been sewn shut); 4. Un hombre que iba a comulgar sin ganas (folk tale, a man collects stones to cover him when he dies, but they turn to dust because he goes to communion and mass with bad intentions, muerte, death, burial, funeral, religion, church).
Snell: Armando Ortega, b. 1949, El Paso, Texas. 1. El hombre de madera, folk tale, (little wooden man is mistreated by his master, runs away to toyland, is rejected, he saves a woman from a lion and is taken in by her and her little daughter, children); 2. La muchacha aranada, folk tale, (a young lady is taken to a dance where her partner slowly turns into an ugly animal, Juarez, Mexico, women); 3. El burro, el viejo y su hijo,, folk tale, (one cannot please everybody); 4. El hombre y el pajarito (twelfth-century tale, Medieval story, the Lay of the Little Bird, man catches a bird lets it go in exchange for three bits of advice).
Romero: Eloy Chavez, b. 1915, Albuquerque, NM. Good recording.1. Los tres astronomos (a donkey teaches about weather forecasting, see CD 12) ; 2. El perico que compro lena (anecdote, see CD 22); 3. El marido celoso (anecdote, the jealous husband listened in on the confession of his wife, she is faithful to him, women).
Romero: Estella Chavez, b. 1913, Albuquerque, NM. La mujer perversa (the perverse woman, folk tale, good recording, women gets mad everytime she is called la palo blanco, the procuress, a storekeeper tricks her into calling herself by that name, women).

Eloy Chavez, b. 1915, Albuquerque, NM. Good recording. 1. La zorrita (animal fable, little fox is too lazy to chase rabbits, climbs on back of a bull waits for a piece of meat to fall off the animal, dies of hunger); 2. Los fashiocos (anecdote, variation of story of three simpletons who are killed because of stupid behavior); 3. La posada (folk tale, young man asks for lodging over night in home, okay but warned wife not to eat too much or husband will kick him out, when husband outside man stuffs himself with food); 4. El zapatero y el rico (folk tale, a rich man solicits the wife of a poor cobbler, cobbler invites rich man to dinner and to take off his clothes, poor man dresses in rich one's clothing, goes to home of rich man whose wife thinks it is him and has sex with her, women, adultry); 5. El anima (folk tale, when husband sheep herder comes home unexpectedly, wife's lover comes knocking at the door, she says knock is a spirit and it will go away if she prays out loud, thus warns her lover, women, adultry); 6. San Antonio, before becoming a saint, St. Anthony was a garderner and job was to keep the birds away from the fruit trees, so he locked all the birds in the classroom, education, school, church, religion).
Romero: Leo Lucero, b. 1934, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Los fashicos (anecdote, the three morons, simpletons, variation of CD 35 and anecdote above); 2. Los fashicos y el burro (anecdote, a fortune teller tells a simpleton he will died after his donkey passes gas three time, death of fashico); c. El fashico guango (anecdote, a simpleton is torn to pieces by a wild mule); 4. Pedro de Urdemalas (folk tale, see CD 21A and B).
