Scope and Contents

Salazar: Arthur Cordova, b. 1950, Albuquerque, NM. Good recording. 1. El coyote hambriento y las bolsas del toro (folk tale, a coyote mistakes a bull's testicles for food, but finds that they do not fall off); 2. Pancho Villa (anecdote, dinner with Pancho, he and man both forced to eat horse excrement, see CD 20); 3. Adivinanza (riddle the fork and the jello, food, eating); 4. Don Cacahuate (anecdote, given lodging he sleeps with the daughter of his host, play on words la ardilla, squirrel, and me ardia - it hurts, language).

Salazar: Odilia Lovato, Cimarron, NM. 1. Dichos, (five proverbs); 2. El que se cayo del caballo (anecdote, when man falls from horse he is laughed at, replies has right to dismount anyway he wants); 3. San Pedro (folk tale, Saint Peter, his mother is dying, gives her a cabbage to hold on to the roots, angels come down to take her, but she chases them off because they are in the form of doves, never goes to Heaven); 4. Cosas extranas durante la luna llena (relato, story of looking fore buried treasure, strange occurrences during the full moon, when you look for treasure will find the devil, too, Cobos noted informant believed in the supernatural).

John Salazar, Raton, NM. 1. El ladron fino (folk tale, boy learning to be a thief, lesson of eggs in eagle nest, steals them from his teacher, also steals a yoke of oxen); 2. Don Cacahuate (anecdote, he and his wife go tramping on a train); 3. El rey y el criado (folk tale, the king takes advantage of a servant's bride, to exact revenge the servant takes advantage of the king's wife, the queen, women, adultery).

Salazar: Ted Ortiz, Raton, NM. La caza de venados (folk tale, a hunter kills all the deer around a water hole by bending the barrel of his gun, hunting).

Sandoval: Anonymos: Part I, Informant tells about the New Mexico Penitentes, social structure, organization, rites, officers, elections . Cobos notes for CD 60 in folder.
