Valdez: Rafael Gallegos, Rutherton, NM, Rio Arriba County. Entriega de novios (lyrics, recited, marriage, wedding, nearly inaudible).

Romero: Miguel Antonio Montoya, b. 1901, San Jose, NM, County unknown. 1. El burro y el leon (folk tale, a donkey and a lion, live on opposite sides of a ravine, donkey shares the pasture of the lion, lion rides on back of the donkey, etc.); 2. Mr. Jack y su caballo (anecdote, breeding a mare with the stallion of Mr. Jack, cattle, horse).

Romero: Fulgencia Duran, b. 1910, El Rancho, NM. El munequito con alfileres (witch story, two boys go to a cave, find a doll with pins stuck in it, bring it home, mother says to throw it away, witches come and find it, voodoo).

Romero: Melesio Vigil, b. 1907, Santa Fe, NM. 1. El burro gordo y el flaco (animal fable, (skinny donkey does not want to go to better pasture because there are no she-donkeys there); 2. Dos locos (anecdote, two mental patients, some tourists and the clock on the asylum wall); 3. Tres compadres (anecdote, three depressed friends, a college graduate, high school graduate and a retarded man decide to commit suicide, jumping off a tower, first two do it, retarded man walks back down, education, retarded more intelligent).

Romero: Perfecta Rascon, b. 1900, Albuquerque, NM. 1. El espejo (anecdote, a shepherd sends home a mirror, different views, him, his father and his mother, not understanding mirror is a reflection, not a photograph); 2. El gallo (anecdote, children, father and laughing about a pucked naked rooster, children); 3. Las Doce Verdades del Mundo, (tongue twister, agglutinate, she recites the twelve truths of the world, language).

Fernandez: C. J. Quintana, b. 1893, Taos, NM. Good recording. Cuento de brujas (witch story, man see strange lights on one side of the river, then the other, they follow him home, he can't sleep, hears noises, finds bag of pebbles in a drawer, throws bag out of house, next morning his face appears burned and disfigured, balls of light).

Fernandez: B. D. Fernandez, b. 1918, La Correllera, Rancho de Taos, NM. 1. Cuento de brujas (witch story, woman of the house suspected of being a witch, when the lover of her daughter comes to visit, turns him into a pumpkin so girl's father will not see him, later restores suitor into former self, women); 2. Cuento de brujas (witch story, two men on horseback corral a coyote, when they look at it, it is not a animal but the old woman Juana Maria, the witch, women);

Fernandez: Tomas Fernandez, Taos, NM. 1. Las luces (good recording, witch story, shepherd goes to a school party one night, returns to camp, see lights rise above the tree tops, and one flies and lands close to him, balls of light); 2. El saquito (good recording, witch story, children find a little bag with chickpeas, needles and straws, eat the peas and get violently sick, mother throws bag out the window, at midnight witches come for their bag and children get well, family, women; El velorio (good recording, while family of house away at a wake, neighbors see lights on roof which enter the chimney and overturned the furniture inside the house, balls of light); 3. El maleficio (good recording, witch story using chile, the spell, woman takes a dish of chile to a neighbor, who instead of eating it, throws into the fire, next morning the woman miraculourly tells the neighbor she knows what she did with the dish, women). La embrujada (good recording, witch story, a witch puts spell on a girl, who goes crazy when the moon is full, so parents move girl away to another town, find a cure for her and she marries, has children and is happy, curandera, women).

Fernandez: Tomas Fernandez, Taos, NM. El tecolote (witch story, man makes a small cross on a bullet and shoots it at a bothersome owl in tree near his home, a few days later women goes to doctor with bullet under her arm).
