Scope and Contents

Anonymous: Anonymous, 1970: 1. El pajaro verde (Part II, a charcoal maker, the green bird and the man's daughters, related episodes, women); 2. Bertoldo (good recording, fragment, see CD 22).

Anonymous: Federico Fructuoso Lara, b. 1899, San Patricio, NM, East of Ruidoso. 1. En la escuela, school (Spanish education in San Patricio, NM, 92 year old teacher was captive - cautivo of the Native American Indians, learned their customs, Federico recites a short verse with a moral, and a story about Ramoncito); 2. Los indios y los soldados (local history, Native American Indian girl tells of hardships of her people when chased by American army soldiers, comments on Indian and Hispanic marriages, women); 3. Cancion de escuela (song, good to fair recording, education, virtues of being a student, school, children); 4. Genoveva de Brabante (folk tale, princess falsely thought by prince to be adultress, banished to forest, has a son, other adventures, women, family); 5. La maestra tejana y su espanol (a Texan Anglo teacher can't speak Spanish yet criticizes a local resident for not understanding her, education, language); 6. La vaca (language, humor story of cow walking along a road and chewing, words in Spanish and English, Spanglish); 7. El totacho (language, Spanish and English, mixing languages, examples, Spanglish); 8. Oportunidad en la escuela (antes y hoy, education, illiterate man teaches reading at school in San Patricio until people find out he can't read); 9. Refran - A la tierra que fueres (folk saying, when in Rome do as the Romans).
