Cobos, 1974: Juan Montano, b. 1903, Golden, NM. 1. La muerte de Billy the Kid (relato, Juan tells what his father told him that Elfego Baca had something to do with arrest of Billy before he was confined in the For Sumner jail); 2. La muerte de Marino Leyba (relato, story of folk hero Leyba of San Antonito, New Mexico, according to Juan's father, Leyba killed by a gang of thieves whom he had antagonized, murder, death, bandit, crime).
Martinez, 1971: Miguelita Lopez, Albuquerque, NM. Los monofasicos (folk tale, three dark skinned dimwits, simpletons, come to New Mexico and learn some new Spanish words, at the scene of a murder, they use their new words and get arrested, language).
Martinez, 1971: Roberto Martinez, b. 1942, Truchas, NM. Corrido de Pete Dominguez (good recording, ballad, song, Pete in bar fight in Truchas, New Mexico, knives and guns, died on way to the hospital, drinking, fighting, death, muerte).
Guarderrama, 1971: Alicia Guarderrama, b. 1926, Las Cruces, NM. 1. El patito feo (animal folk tale, New Mexico version of the Ugly Duckling story, beautifully told); 2. La peste en Guanajuato (relato, story of Guanajuato, Mexico, about 1870s, plague, a person is buried alive, noise in tomb, casket dug up, but too late, suffocated, burial, death, funeral, muerte,cemetery); 2. El cuervo y el agua (animal fable, thirsty crow drops pebbles in a glass in order to drink the water) ; 4. El zapatero (folk tale, king orders a hundred pair of shoes from the shoemaker due the next morning, can't do that many, a beggar comes by, is fed and sheltered kindly by the shoemaker, turns out to be a fairy who makes the shoes overnight); 5. El cristianito (folk tale, a devout child sings hymns, goes to Jewish part of city and they kill him, parents hear his voice and find him, Virgin Mary takes a pebble from his mouth to stop his singing, Jews, religion, church, children); 6. El muchacho y el lobo (folk tale, Spanish version of the boy who cried - wolf).
Guaderrama, 1971: Yolanda Alexander, b. 1947, Las Cruces, NM. Good recording. La tortuga y el conejo (the tortoise and the hare story, folk tale, New Mexico version of the race between the rabbit and the turtle).
Guaderrama, 1971: Moises Garcia, b. 1938, Las Cruces, NM. El chapulin y la hormiguita (good recording, the grasshopper and the ant, folk tale, in winter the hardworking ant saves the life of the lazy grasshopper).
Guarderrama, 1971: Lauro Guarderrama, Sr., b. 1919, Las Cruces, NM. El perro y el hueso (the dog and the bone, animal fable, running along the river, dog carrying a bone sees himself mirrored in the water, jumps after the bigger bone in the reflection, and looses the one he has).
Guaderrama, 1971: Moises Garcia, b. 1938, Las Cruces, NM. El cristiano y el leon (fair recording, folk tale, Christian Androcles in the circus arena, had pulled thorn from paw of lion, which did not attack him, Roman Empire, Emperor pardons the man).
Carrillo, 1971: Luisa Sanchez, b. 1900. 1. Los siete venaditos (folk tale, variation of the seven princes turned into deer by a witch; here seven sons and their sister, adventures,women); 2. Pedro de Urdemalas (folk tale, instead of the king, Pedro is working for a priest, sells the pigs, lied that lost them in the mud; and story of a ghost that shows Pedro the treasure in an old house); 3. La cenicienta golosa (folk tale, Spanish version of Cinderella, widow with daughter married a widower, with a daughter, who is mistreated by the stepmother, fairy godmother and prince, women); 4. El padre y la vaca (anecdote, priest knows man has killed his cow, man knows priest had affair with his wife, standoff, religion, church); 5. Manofashcio (folk tale, the dimwit, simpleton tries to hide in a haystack but his feet stick out and he is found out; later tries to get a grasshopper off the face of a man, but shoots it, killing the man).
