Maestas and Trujillo, 1973: Amadeo Lopez, b. 1898, Chamizal, NM. 1. Un viejito y sus gallinas (anecdote, when thief caught in chichen house, farmer asks who is there, thief says nobody but us chickens) ; 2. Una mujer en la corte (anecdote, when questioned in court woman answers no to all questions - is she married, a widow or single, well what are you then asked attorney, divorced she says, divorce, women); 3. Un viejito con su nieto (anecdote, grandfather nicknamed Jeta, buys grandaughter a sweater, asked how it fits, she answers como su jeta, play on words); 4. El padre Salmudio y el negrito poeta (legend, Padre is pastor in same village where lives the wise Negrito Poeta, Black Poet, play on word jeta, language); 5. El albanil (anecdote, brick layer, old man, young man and building an adobe wall, plaster); 6. El viejito escardador (relato, story of child, not able to enunciate Spanish words grandfather and atole, local humor, language); 7. El de las maquinas de trillar (relato, story of man asking for girl in marriage, scribe writes formal letter read to her mother asking for her hand in marriage, wedding, women). ); 8. El abogado y el tontito (anecdote, smart aleck attorney goes to fence in yard to talk to his neighbor, a simplton, dimwit, asks him what is the difference between a simpleton and a idiot, cleverly neighbor replies only the fence between them, intelligent poor and lowly person); 9. El hombre del comercio (relato, little boy tries to get change from gum machine after he puts in his penny, children, education, business).

Lucero: Emilia Lucero, b. 1916, Santa Fe, NM. 1. La Llorona (legend, woman crying for children she drowned, women); 2. El diablo del ferrocarril (witch story, men working on the railroad want to go to a dance, variation of the black horse story, horse takes them to a mountain top instead of dance, devil, holy name of Jesus and Mary saves one man, religion, church, labor, work); 3. El minero malo (local history, in 1939 man from Madrid, New Mexico, bought book on Black Magic, learned the arts, and made pact with devil near Cerrillos, New Mexico, witch).
