Scope and Contents
Turner: Jorge Pascual Garcia, b. 1907, Peralta, NM. Good recording. 1. Part II, Los cuatro hermanos; 2. El indio abogado (folk tale, a man buys eggs on credit, the creditor later asks for higher price, an Indian explains an ear of roasted corn is worth only an ear of roasted corn, as can't be planted, Native American Indian, natural lawyer, law, values, logic).
Gurule: Manuel Vigil y Campos, b. 1888, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Don Cacahuate (anecdote, another adventure, barely audible due to age of informant); 2. Los bueyes (folkways, the role of oxen in Hispanic life, barely audible); 3. Juegos y pasatiempos (children, games and pastimes, Spanish hopscotch, pelota, el chueco, horse races); 4. Amansando caballos (a relato, story, breaking and taming horses, ranching); 5. Mama, la garra (anecdote, during a rosary in a morada, a girl, her mother and the rag mother wears that she drops, church, women, Penitentes); 6. La viejita que rezaba (anecdote, inaudible, weak voice, women); 7. El viejito sordo (anecdote, a suitor asks father for a girl Mariana in marriage, near deaf father thinks he said la marrana, the hog, women); 8. La promesa (folk tale, two men on a road, one dripping with mocos and the other bothered by flies, inaudible, weak voice).

Gurule: Manuel Vigil y Campos, b. 1888, Albuquerque. 1. Surumatos (Mexican immigrants, Mexico, local history, origin of name surumato for Mexican in New Mexico, work); 2. Domingo Valles (local family history, his grandfather was in battle against the Texans, Texas, Battle of Peralta, Civil War, Valencia County, they visit the site of the battle, Los Lunas area; and Domingo shoots a bolillo, local name for an Anglo, North American).

Pedro Rimales (folk tale, Pedro Urdemalas, story of the king and the hogs that Pedro sells; story of him outwitting St. Peter to get into heaven, and others adventures); 2. Dos cazadores (folk tale, hunters, one account of a hunter twisting the gun barrel to kill a band of killers; another about hunters never having seen a deer, but following the descriptions they were given and bringing back a large grasshopper, humor); 3. El cazador que pesco un venado vivo (folk tale, to bring in a live deer, a hunter shoots off the tail of a doe, and a big buck follows him home, hunting); 4. Don Cacahuate y Dona Cebolla (anecdote, he gets out of working, says he does not know when the workdays are, is not a calendar, and other adventures); 5. Adivinanzas (eight riddles); 6. Las calabazas de Kansas (anecdote, giant pumkins from Kansas and giant cooking pots for them from Mexico) ; 7. Los mejicanos en el traque (a Mexican worker on train track work gang, railroad, asks for September 16 holiday off, Mexican Independence Day, French, but his poor English causes confusion, unique translation, Mexico); 8. Frijoles, chile y sandia (anecdote, of Mexican boy lost in the desert and an unmarked grave where these plants are growing, since he loved to eat them, assume he is buried there, Mexico, death); 9. Los dos padres (anecdote, a Catholic priest, a Protestant minister, and a railroad crossing, dispute over when to make the sign of the cross, church); 10. El maromero ( the tumbler or acrobat, the priest in the confessional, and two old ladies, women, church); 11. El alguacil mayor (anecdote, a candidate and a widow who makes advances at him, compared to a bull and a cow - not wanting to lose his reputation, women, politics); 12.
