Scope and Content Note

From the Collection: The collection documents Ferrel Heady’s presidential tenure at the University of New Mexico. Included are memos, correspondence, addresses, publications, DVDs, newspaper clippings, photographs, awards, memorabilia, and a scrapbook. Student unrest and civil rights are among the issues that President Heady’s collection illuminates. The scrapbook details the history of the President’s House on campus, also known as University House.

Series 1: Awards and Certificates contain personal and work related plaques, tributes and commendations. Includes DVDs (Part 1 and 2) of Heady's Inauguration.

Series 2: Board of Regents contains proceedings of meetings, policy, legislation, and planning reports.

Series 3: Charlotte Heady contains documents pertaining to volunteer work, travel, guest lists, and a scrapbook donated by Charlotte Heady with pictures and clippings of the refurbishing of the President's House.

Series 4: Clippings include copious newsprint items that Heady saved about all the events that happened on campus during his tenure. There are mainstream media reports on the student demonstrations and activism that Heady clipped and saved. The clippings are arranged in chronological order.

Series 5: Correspondence includes Heady's correspondence and is arranged alphabetically.

Series 6: Courses and Teaching include Heady's course syllabus, grading rubrics, comments on student work, exams, and final course evaluations from students.

Series 7: Grant includes information tied to the Fulbright Scholarship Heady received in 1992-1993.

Series 8: Notes and Journals include the handwritten notes that Heady wrote during meetings, conferences, and policy debates. The notes are arranged in chronological order and function as a journal for Heady.

Series 9: Policy, Planning and Task Forces contain folders that are arranged in chronological order and include transcripts of conferences, and reports from administrative work Heady was involved in both on and off UNM's campus.

Series 10: Printed Material is arranged chronologically and includes the pamphlets and articles Heady saved about public administration issues, national campus unrest and student activism, and ideas he found important on campus governance.

Series 11: Publications are Heady's own published works that are arranged in chronological order. (Note: these publications do not include all of Heady's written work.)

Series 12: Speeches include talks delivered to different campus and public groups and are arranged in chronological order.

Series 13: Student Movements and Activism include documents directly tied to campus groups and individuals who were involved in activism at UNM.

Series 14: Photos spanning several decades and include friends, family, functions, meetings, and tennis matches.

Series 15: Memorabilia includes various gifts Heady received over the years during his affiliation with UNM and the Public Administration work that he conducted with other countries around the globe.
