Scope and Content

From the Collection: Commercially reproduced and distributed postcards of various sizes, with the majority 3.5 x 5 inches. Some are black & white photographs, others are tinted or printed from color film. Processes include collotypes, gelatin silver prints and photomechanical prints. Received from various sources, they are organized by region and subdivided alphabetically by locale or other subject depicted. Some of the locations represented in New Mexico are Abiquiu, Abo, Acoma, Albuquerque, Apache Canyon, Aztec, Camel Rock, Carlsbad, Chama, Cimarron, Cloudcroft, Conchas Dam, Cochiti Pueblo, Deming, Elephant Butte, Fort Selden, Santa Fe and Route 66.

Includes postcards by J. R. Willis.

Additions transferred from other collections expand the geographic range to all of North, Central and South America, and Europe

This collection also contains 8 postcard albums: 3 albums from Spain, Italy, Sweden, and Norway collected circa 1918; 1 album from France, England, Austria, Germany undated; 1 album from Italy, England, France, Canada circa 1890 containing 269 postcards; 1 album of the British Isles circa 1880 containing 44 postcards; 1 scrapbook and postcard album of Mary LeRoy King including primarily postcards of England, Scotland, and Italy before 1872 containing 158 postcards; and 1 album of gravestones in the United States circa 1884 containing 50 postcards.
