Scope and Content

From the Collection: Photographs and slides in this collection relate to Robert White’s research and writings about early Taos artists and artists of Territorial New Mexico. E. I. Couse, Martin Hennings, and Bert Geer Phillips are focuses of the collection.

Personal/family photos are included, as well as photos of New Mexico events and people such as Concha Ortiz y Pino de Kleven and C. V. Theis. White’s career and involvement in NM geology is documented, as is his time in Saigon (1966).

The collection includes 143 glass plates, with corresponding digital scans. Some are from Martin Hennings' estate. This material is unidentified and depicts people in formal and informal poses, in interior and exterior locations including waterside, camping, and painting studios. There are also a few photographic plates reproducing paintings.

Photographic negatives and positives on 4x5 inch and 5x7 inch glass plates, depicting unidentified people, places and paintings, some from Martin Hennings.

Researchers are requested to review glass plates via correpsponding digital scans on DVDs in Box 1, Folder 18.
