Architecture: city and town, 1940-1990

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 5

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection contains photographs compiled by author, educator, and landscape specialist John Brinckerhoff (J. B.) Jackson. Photographs includes those taken by Jackson himself as well as those produced by other photographers at Jackson's request.

Photomechanical prints document various landscapes, architectural constructions, and socio-econonmic conditions in Europe and North America. See manuscripts collection (John Brinkeroff Jackson Papers, 1808 - 1996) for more information. The addition to the collection made in 2004 is found in boxes 6 - 7 and the oversize folder. The addition demonstrates the depth and variety of J. B. Jackson's interest within the field of landscape, including vernacular, architectural, political, natural, European and American landscapes. The addition is an eclectic mix of sketches, paintings, photographs, pictures, magazines and slides that have been organized thematically by the following subjects: landscapes and aerial sketches; buildings; farming and gardening; animals; transportation; art; sketches and chalk drawings; photographs; slides; and an oversized folder including paintings and comic strips. The slides are a series from "La Documentation Francaise" by the Institut Pedagogique National.
