Contact sheets, 1980s

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 5

Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection contains formal and informal photographs of author Tony Hillerman and others, along with places, southwest landscapes, and events, from the late 1920s to approximately 2000. The majority of the photographs of Hillerman are anonymous, with the notable exception of Series 4, photographed by Barney Hillerman, and a few author portraits stamped with photographer or studio information. Many of the personal photographs have been published in biographies of Hillerman. Contact sheets present positive prints of most of the 35mm slides, transparencies, and negatives. Further, the slides and negatives are generally also represented as photographic prints.

The collection is arranged into 8 series.

Series 1 is the original accession, photographic material separated from the Papers.

Series 2 contains photographs of Hillerman in individual and group settings.

Series 3 contains places and landscapes.

Series 4 is a series of Hillerman Country landscapes.

Series 5 are 35mm slide positives and 3x4 negative and positive transparencies.

Series 6 includes oversize items. Series 7 are scans of photographic prints still held by the Hillerman family. Series 8 includes photographic prints received in two additions in 2021 and 2023 from Anne Hillerman.
