Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection contains travel photographs from New Mexico, Arizona, California, Colorado and other states, as well as Canada and Mexico. The majority of the photographs were taken by Harvey Caplin and Ruth Armstrong. Also included are photographs used for Ruth Armstrong's book, The Chases of Cimarron. The collection is arranged geographically with New Mexico as the first series, and the rest of the United States, Canada, and Mexico as the second series.

The photographs record various forms of recreation such as camping, skiing, hiking and visiting ghost towns, state and national parks and monuments. Other activities and sites include ranching, the Albuquerque balloon fiesta, Sandia tramway, trains, New Mexico state fairgrounds, and lakes.

Various types of buildings represented in this collection are churches, hotels, commercial buildings, historical buildings, ranch houses and forts.
