Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection consists of 51 cds containing oral interviews with Frank Day, Bryan Beavers and Leland Scott, members of the Maidu-Concow tribe. The Concow traditionally occupied the Northeastern Caifornia country between the North Fork and South Fork of the Feather River. In the 1960's, through his work with the tribe, Mr. Jewell became acquainted with the Concow elders. He listened to and taped the stories they told. Many of the elders from whom Donald Jewell gathered information are now deceased. Their accounts of tribal life before the arrival of Euro-American makes this recorded information particularly valuable.

Oral histories in English, songs in Maidu. There are no transcripts.

Forms part of John Donald Robb Archive of Southwestern Music.
