Abstract: 9/12/2012, 9/25/2012. In Tape 1, Thompson discusses his childhood, family and impacts of early education in boarding schools. He outlines the services and educational institutions for Native youth including Navajo Prep and Albuquerque Indian School. He also discusses his early involvement in the National Indian Youth Council and All Indian Pueblo Council, as well as his activism regarding natural resources. In this interview he concludes with his professional endeavors prior to his employment at UNM. In tape 2 of interview one, he begins to focus more on his experience teaching at UNM including his involvement in the Johnson O'Malley Program and work with NAPCOE. In tape 3, Thompson elaborates on Native student support services for STEM students and programs that support professional and financial support for Native students. He also outlines the various challenges Native Students in STEM programs encounter. In tape 4, Thompson discusses UNM AISES in more detail. He also provides his opinions on how tribal governments can support Native students through economic development on the reservations and creating infrastructure for new graduate hire.
