Abstract: 4/19/2012. In his interview, he discusses his involvement and history of student political movement with Kiva Club during his time at U.N.M. His first wife, Elva. R. Benson was the 1st Native one the UNM Student Senate. He also discusses key figures of Native organizing on U.N.M. including Janella Haines (Cherokee), director of Native American Center and Harvey Paymella (Hopi), who were both strong supporters of students during a time that support for Native students was virtually invisible. He also discusses his role in assisting the Navajo Nation adopting the tax systems for the tribe and the development of funding for Navajo Nation Scholarships through mineral revenue royalties. He also offers his perspectives regarding Native presence in disciplines such as Economics, how that work is needed in Navajo Nation planning initiatives and how those absences impact the tribe.
