 File — Box: 1, Folder: 15

Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection is comprised of material Dennis Trujillo collected and generated while researching and writing his Ph.D. dissertation, “The Commodification of Hispano Culture in New Mexico: Tourism, Mary Austin, and the Spanish Colonial Arts Society." It contains person or subject research files which include correspondence, copies of documents, notes, and clippings and folders containing manuscripts and dissertation materials including correspondence with committee members and sections of an unpublished research chapter. The collection also contains recorded oral interviews by Trujillo with New Mexico santeros and individuals associated with the Spanish Colonial Arts Society (SCAS) including Charlie Carrillo, Ramon Jose Lopez, Donna Pierce, Carmella Padilla, Concha Ortiz y Pino de Kleven and others. These sound recordings (transferred to digital format) with transcriptions are unique to this collection and are an important resource to the study of New Mexico tourism, the Santa Fe Spanish Market and the commodification of Hispanic culture. Most of the transcriptions of the oral interviews were done by Nicholas Ciotola.
