Huning Mercantile Co. Correspondence and Financial Statements, 1943-1944

 File — Box: 13, Folder: 6
Identifier: CD 1

Scope and Contents

Financial statements for the Huning fiscal year of 1 Feb. 1943 to 31 Jan. 1944. These financial statements are of interest as they represent a year in the midst of World War II when many inventory items were scarce or unavailable. Despite these obstacles to securing merchandise, the mercantile firm reported gross sales of $125,418.78 during the reporting period generating a gross profit on sales of 18.93% and a net profit of 3.56%. The immediacy of the war to the firm is shown by a cover letter of 20 March 1944 from W.E. Hammond, C.P.A. to Warrant Officer Fred Huning, Jr. accompanying Warrant Officer Huning's 1943 State and Federal Income Tax Returns. At the time, Huning was stationed at Camp Campbell Kentucky.
