L. & H. Huning Accounts Receivable Ledger, 1874-1875

 File — Box: 8, item: 6

Scope and Contents

Entries legible but diminutive. A March 3, 1875 entry notes that Juan Padilla purchased tacks @ $.35 and meat at $.48 adding a total of $.73 to his account receivable. Among all the Spanish surnames, one curious account is simply designated "Daisy." Daisy's November and December 1874 expenditures with the Hunings totaled $16.12½, how the half cent balance may have been paid remains open to conjecture. Throughout the Huning Journals and Ledgers, pages at the rear were often used to note quantities of produce, etc. This ledger marks the first appearance of that practice. Page 586, headed "Campaigns," reports mineral (copper) production on 13 different days beginning with Oct. 5, 1874 and concluding April 19, 1875. These entries record time (morning or afternoon) worked, pounds (apparently) excavated and total produced. The following page 587 records "Hay account." Pg. 588 lists "Tools at the mines" and includes 6 drills, 6 hammers, 5 dress hammers, 2 short and 3 long crowbars, 1 bundle fuse, 1 cow & calf, 9 shovels, 11 picks, etc. The upper 2/3 of p. 589 lists "Cooking utensils at the mining camp" and the bottom 1/3 records the "Corn accounts." and Pp. 591 through 594 record "Bullion made since April 16th 1874."
