Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection comprises a large selection of sheet and recorded music, many with illustrated covers, which represent nineteen different countries from Latin America, Europe, and the U.S. In addition to countless musical scores, these works contain artists’ signatures on the illustrated covers, photographs of performers and composers, and personal dedications. Since many of these scores were published through arts magazines and periodicals, they contain advertisements relevant to the time period during which they were published, primarily from the first half of the twentieth century. These advertisements reflect the audiences, especially women, targeted by specific musical genres as well as other commercial products. Fashion models abound in photographs and illustrations found in the back covers and interior pages of several scores and anthologies. Personal dedications have been noted to aid those researchers who seek biographical information within the scores.
