Lapidary Reporter, 1882-2007

 File — Box: 2, Folder: 30

Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection contains materials pertaining to New Mexico and the Southwest, collected and donated to the Center for Southwest Research by Nancy Tucker. The collection includes memorabilia, programs, and brochures related to local businesses, sport teams, and events. It also includes Albuquerque Police Department reports, and Girard family papers. John P. Girard’s family came from France to New Mexico in the late 1800s. They settled in Albuquerque and worked in the hotel business in the downtown district of Albuquerque (Source: 1885, 1910 U.S. Censuses). The collection also contains correspondence to Nancy Tucker from Rita Mae Brown, nationally known feminist, lesbian activist and author. Rita Mae Brown and Nancy Tucker were good friends and most of these letters are informal and personal in nature. Some letters describe Brown’s busy schedule as a writer and activist. A folder containing sheet music written about Albuquerque and New Mexico is also included in the collection. This will be an ongoing collection as we expect Ms. Tucker to periodically add materials.

In the summer of 2019 Tucker donated a collection of business materials from the Maisel's Indian Trading Post on West Central Avenue in Albuquerque and some about the Maisel family properties in Albuquerque, dating from the 1940s-1970s. They are in Boxes 2 and 3.
