Scope and Contents

Navajo - Yei-be-chai chants, dances Recording from a commercial LP - ARP 6069 - a and b, published by Canyon Records, Phoenix, Arizona, ca. 1970. 2 sides. Performers: Navajo Centennial Dance Team, Alfred Yazzie, leader; Walter Yazzie; Mark Slickey and Leroy Martin. They are a partial representation of the team. The team performed throughout Navajoland and in many areas of the U.S. during the Centennial Year of 1969, marking the 100th anniversary of the signing of the peace treaty between the U.S. government and the Navajo Tribe, and the return of the Navajos to their homeland. The team was awarded the prize for best Yeibechai group appearing at the 1968 Navajo Tribal Fair in Window Rock, Arizona.
