Scope and Contents
Summary of notes: Mr. Stacher tells about his ancestors coming from Holland to Pennsylvania. His father and family moved from Ohio to Oklahoma in an immigrant railroad car, including animals and children. Herb relates stories about his father’s and mother’s hard life and work at the Indian Agency in Oklahoma, where they knew Jim Thorpe, the Indian athlete, and at the Ute Agency in Navajo Springs. Later Herb recalls his own life as a painter for a gallery in Gallup, serving in the Navy in World War II and working in the office of the Southwest Mining Company.
