Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection contains land documents, photographs of New Mexico, maps, plats, blueprints, McMurdo Estate papers and other documents from the law firm of Rodey, Dickason, Sloan, Akin & Robb.

Among the land grant documents are maps and documents for the Cañada de los Alamos Grant and Bishop John Lamy Grant also known as "El Rancho de Nuestra Señora de Luz" grant. The present day community of Eldorado near Santa Fe is located on the land from these two grants. The collection also contains the Onderdonk Live Stock Company Stock certificate receipt book, 1898-1951, stock certificates and 1901 mortgage and deeds with Francisco A. Manzanares regarding the "El Rancho de Nuestra Señora de Luz" grant.

The photographs ranging from the 1950s-1970s are of Albuquerque and other areas in New Mexico like Santa Rosa, Socorro, and Cuba. There are also aerial photographs of Albuquerque. The photographs were probably used in legal cases.

The maps, plats and blueprints cover Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, Placitas, Sandoval County, Santa Fe County, Valencia County, Torrance County, and Rio Arriba County. There is a plat showing mines of R. R. Benedict and J. H. Locke, several plats by the Ross-Beyer Engineering Office, plat showing U.S. Highway no. 58 South of Los Lunas, 1956, plats for Albuquerque additions, Hilton, Matthew, Rio Grande Heights and Snow Heights, 1962 blueprints for the Ute Dam Spillway located in eastern New Mexico, 1968 right of way map for University Blvd, 1951 right of way map for Carlisle Blvd., map of 1946 proposed extension of corporate limits on the Eastern section of Albuquerque, and property map for the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy Sandoval District, 1936.

The documents from the Maude Berry McMurdo Estate papers include correspondence, property documents and photographs. There are photographs of Maude McMurdo's second husband, local New Deal Artist, James T. McMurdo, some of his paintings and a friend's New Mexico vacation in 1940. The collection also contains their wedding certificate, Notice of Lode Mining Location in the Jemez Mining District and Maude's will.
