GOODBYE, MONIQUE (79), May 10, 2017

 File — Box: 193, Folder: 11

Scope and Contents

This is basically BOOK TWO, but the first 36 pages describe Monique and Dad's 1942 move to Miami Beach, then Monique's illness and death, her burial at Mastic and Dad's fight with my French grandmother, Mamita, for custody of me. (Bad idea!) And BOOK TWO, as I've described it, starts on page 37, Dad and Johnny's life after 1942, although our story is interspersed with some sections of Dad and Monique's life taken from BOOK ONE. Awkward! First page of this manuscript contains an interesting 200-word explanation I wrote of the trouble I had trying "to structure and control this book." My repetitive different versions seem crazy to me now. 201 pages.
