SLIDE ORGANIZATNG MATERIAL, 2013-2014
File — Box: 180, slide-box: 47
Scope and Contents
- 1. Correspondence between me and Beth Silbergleit at CSWR between March 22, 2012 and March 31, 2013. Mostly related to this part of my archives project, the organizing, inventorying, and filing of my massive batch of transparencies.
- 2. Correspondence between me and Beth Silbergleit at CSWR between May 12, 2013 and November 18, 2013 (the date when I finally sent Beth an initial printout of the inventory for the contents of all the archival slide boxes listed above).
- 3. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels numbered 31, 28, 26, 25, 24, and People Five. My process was to try and date (circling the date to make it stand out), all slides or series of slides, then coordinate slides from different locations into a single carrousel. This required weeks of sorting slides on 3 light tables in my kitchen, inspecting them with a loup to see if they were quasi viable or not, and crossing them off on the envelopes and Xerox sheets as I eventually narrowed them down into archival sleeves that eventually wound up in archival boxes. When I finally emptied a carrousel, I wrote GONE triumphantly on the envelopes and the Xeroxes of the envelopes. Not all the "finished" archival slide boxes make sense, but they make a lot more sense than when I started! This excruciatingly clumsy and tedious process took me the better part of a year. The inventory in this protective sheet and the ones that follow add up to 50 carrousels. I began with 70 carrousels but dumped the contents of the other 20 carrousels into the 50 you see here before I began tabulating the inventory. Got it? Good. Then you're way ahead of me! To my way of thinking, it's all gobbledegook.
- 4. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 17, 2, 14, 11, Wedding to Juanita Wolf A, Wedding to Juanita Wolf B, Rio Grande three, Rio Grande four.
- 5. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 19, 9, 6, Early Slides one, Early Slides two, Rio Grande two, Rio Grande five, and John and Juana in Rio Grande Gorge.
- 6. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 3, 16, 12, and 21 (People One).
- 7. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 7, 22, 23, People Two, People Three, and People Four.
- 8. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 20, Eclectic, Los Cordovas Jogging Area one, Los Cordovas Jogging Area two, and Jogging Area And Others three.
- 9. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 1, 5, 8, 10, 27, and 32.
- 10. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 4, 18, 29, and 30.
- 11. These are my envelope and Xeroxed inventories for slide carrousels 13, 15, Taos Valley Eclectic, and Random Slides (mostly from 1983).
- 12. These sheets are my attempt to take inventories from various archival boxes, get them into more logical order in more logical boxes, and then order and reorder the boxes until they made better sense and were in more logical order, with the proper amount of slide sheets in each archival slide box. (And if you understand what I just said above you understand it way better than me! The whole process was a massive game of 52 pickup!)

General
THERE ARE NO SLIDES IN THIS BOX. THE CONTENTS CONSIST OF 11 SHEET PROTECTORS STUFFED WITH WRITTEN INVENTORIES I MADE TO BEGIN ORGANIZING ALL THE FORGOING SLIDES THAT WERE IN KODAK CARROUSELS. THE FIRST TWO SHEET PROTECTORS CONTAIN CORRESPONDENCE, RELATED TO THIS PROJECT BETWEEN 2012 AND 2013, WITH BETH SILBERGLEIT OF UNM ZIMMERMAN LIBRARY'S CSWR. THE REST OF THE SHEET PROTECTORS CONTAIN ENVELOPES WITH ORIGINAL INVENTORIES AND XEROXES OF THOSE ENVELOPES USED TO TRY AND ORGANIZE THE SLIDES IN A LOGICAL MANNER. ENVELOPES REMAINED IN THE INDIVIDUAL CARROUSEL BOXES; AND I USED THE XEROX SHEETS TO KEEP OVERALL TABS ON THE CONTENT OF THOSE BOXES IN A BOOKLET FORM I COULD EASILY LEAF THROUGH TIME AND AGAIN. I ALSO HAD ABOUT 250 LITTLE YELLOW KODAK MAILING BOXES THAT I ORGANIZED BY DATES AND CONTENTS SCRIBBLED ON THE SIDES AND TOPS OF THE YELLOW BOXES, CONTENTS (SLIDES) THAT EVENTUALLY MERGED WITH THE CARROUSEL SLIDES WHEN I INTEGRATED RELATED SLIDES FROM BOTH CARROUSELS AND MAILING BOXES INTO PRINT FILE SLEEVES THAT WENT INTO THE ARCHIVAL BOXES. THE PROCESS WAS LIKE PLAYING 10,000 PICKUP, SEEKING TO JOIN RELATED SLIDES THAT, AT THE BEGINNING, WERE SCATTERED TO HELL AND BACK. IN THE END I'M NOT SURE ALL THE EFFORT WAS WORTH IT. YOU HAVE TO REALLY SEARCH FOR THE FEW DECENT PHOTOS.
