Pearl’s copy of The Charrette Was A Linker, Albuquerque Health Charrette, booklet by Charles William Brubaker, Architect of the Perkins and Will firm, program was sponsored by the Bureau of Educational Planning and Development and the Department of Architecture, at the University of New Mexico, Donald Schlegel, The Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute and the Southwestern Cooperative Educational Laboratory, the topics were untrained and unemployed citizens needing jobs and the need for semi professional workers in the health field, what was the role of TVI, economic revitalization, community planning, enclosed were several untitled sketches, February 1970

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The George Clayton Pearl Papers contain correspondence, newspaper clippings, articles, reports, accounting files, appointment books, job books, sketch books, certificates, awards, philanthropic files, and personal belongings. The collection contains records of George Pearl’s professional and personal life from his childhood through retirement, 1923-2003. The collection also contains information from various professional projects represented by records, notes and sketches while George Pearl work for SMPC Architects in Albuquerque, NM.

Some significant projects represented in the collection include: Albuquerque Public Library, Albuquerque, New Mexico (circa 1975), Zimmerman Library, University of New Mexico Campus, Albuquerque, New Mexico (circa 1969), Ortega Hall, University of New Mexico Campus, Albuquerque, New Mexico, College of Business, Eastern New Mexico University, Portales, New Mexico (circa 1977), and the renovation of the old Montezuma Hotel in Las Vegas, New Mexico to create the United World College (circa 1980).

Series I: Personal Files: These files contain personal writings, drawings, correspondence, degrees and honors along with university coursework, volunteer work projects and newspaper clippings, personal belonging and audio interviews of George Pearl.

Series II: Professional Files: These files contain presentations, classes taught, professional organization papers, professional honor and awards, miscellaneous business correspondence and clippings relating to Pearl’s professional projects.

Series III: Projects and Job Files: These tiles contain alphabetically arranged projects files relating to SMPC and to personal projects that Pearl worked on throughout his career.

Series IV: Sketchbooks and Drawings: These files contain various sketchbooks with drawings and notes along with loose drawings Pearl made throughout his life.

Series V: Photos and Slides: These files contain personal and family photos, project related photos and slides along with artistic photos taken by Pearl. Included are photographs of photographer, Lee Marmon.

Series VI: Addition 2019. Contains several notebooks of George Pearl from his UNM courses in Anthropology and Philosophy in the 1950s. His copy of a 1970 booklet from a meeting about improving health services and job training in Albuquerque, co sposored by the UNM Department of Architecture. These items were found among Pearl's books that were placed in the George Pearl Reading Room (group study room) in FADL. They were transferred to the CSWR in 2010.

Addition to Collection, 2023: Primarily contains correspondence and photographs focusing on the years of Pearl's military service, 1943-1946.
