Scope and Content

This collection contains administrative materials from the Carlsbad, state, regional, and national LULAC. This collection contains documentation of state and national conventions, meetings, membership rosters, financial reports, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, certificates of merit, brochures advertising fundraising events, and reports concerning the civil rights of Hispanics. The collection also contains information from LULAC National Educational Services Centers (LNESC). Material with a national focus includes news clippings, articles, and reports concerning LULAC’s work to ensure Hispanic civil rights. The collection is arranged in five series:

Carlsbad materials include board meeting notes, reports and agendas, correspondence, and information on local events and fundraisers. In addition, local educational initiatives such as Student of the Month programs and scholarships are included. LULAC fiesta materials (including photographs) related specifically to Carlsbad, NM and the Carlsbad chapter of LULAC are also included.

State materials largely consist of State Convention programs and the state resolutions resulting from the annual state meetings.

Regional materials include New Mexico and Texas agendas and programs. Also included are newsletters from various area LULAC councils.

National materials consist of correspondence regarding national LULAC initiatives and issues. This series also contains materials and programs from national conventions, board meetings, and special meetings, as well as an assortment of correspondence from board members, and national politicians. Issue-related materials primarily focus on discrimination, the elderly, civil rights, education, immigration, and Puerto Rican self-determination.

Publications consist of an assortment of regional and national publications, and national position papers.
