Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection documents Garo Antreasian’s professional career via 11 series:
From the Collection:
  1. Correspondence with galleries, museums, colleagues, and the like. Included is documentation of Antreasian prints and related notes.
  2. Murals/Exhibits/Galleries document significant Antreasian gallery activity and shows, museum exhibitions, and early mural projects.
  3. Lectures/Writings contain text of lectures and remarks given by Antreasian as well as text written by him and published in catalogs and other sources.
  4. Publicity includes exhibition catalogues featuring Antreasian’s work, as well as articles and news clippings about him and his work.
  5. Tamarind materials give a snapshot of Antreasian’s role as an administrator at Tamarind Lithography Workshop. Materials relating to writing and publication of the Tamarind Book of Lithography are also included. Note that more complete documentation of Tamarind and related activities are found in the Tamarind Institute records.
  6. University of New Mexico materials give a brief overview of Antreasian’s tenure and involvement at UNM.
  7. Professional Activities focus is on conferences and workshops that Antreasian attended, as well as involvements with professional organizations and issues.
  8. Research Materials/Notes pertain to art history in general and lithography in particular. English translations of early lithography texts, Der künstlerische Steindruck : handwerkliche Erfahrungen bei künstlerischen Flachdruckverfahren : mit Druckbeispielen by Carl Kappstein, 1910; Manuel de lithographie artistique pour l'artiste et l'imprimeur by E. Duchatel, 1907; Alois Senefelder : sein Leben und Wirken by Carl Wagner, 1914; Godefroy Engelmann, imprimeur lithographe : les incunables, by Leon Lang; Noveau manuel complet du dessinateur et de l'imprimeur lithographie … by E. Knecht (1867); Hanbuch der lithographie unddes steindruckes, by Fritz Georg are also included.
  9. Plaques (3) honoring Garo Antreasian are included.
  10. Artwork consists of original sketches and print maques.
  11. Audio recordings consist of interviews with and lectures given by Antreasian.
