 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

From the Series: These boxes contain additional handwritten notes by Scholes on historical persons, places, events, documents and books that he came across in teaching and researching. Some refer to people in the history of Mexico, Yucatan and New Mexico. Others refer to towns, missions, and church affairs specifically in Mexico and Yucatan. Others cover topics in World History, including Europe, South America, Asia, etc. A few notes on the archives give details of his stay overseas researching. Occasionally he noted if he copied a particular document or to which library in the U.S. he sent copies. Sometimes the notes refer to ideas used in lectures or titles of books he read and told his students about, books he had or ones he was looking for. He also bought many books and gave them away to students or sold them to other libraries. Occasionally he notes prices paid or to whom he gave the book.
