Scope and Contents

Scholes’ photocopy of Colección de Documentos Inéditos para La Historia de México, by Joaquín García Icazbalceta and José Fernando Ramírez, published by J. M. Andrade, México, 1858-66, 2 Vols. His photocopy was made from a microfilm copy of the book belonging to Ralph Emerson Twitchell, of Santa Fe (stamped title page). (See - Zim Mfilm F1203 G21 1858 for reel of same).

These documents were transcribed directly from the originals, hence they are inéditos. They are in typed Spanish but not translated. They relate to the conquest of Mexico, Cortes, his soldiers, the early missions, the role of the caciques, treatment of the Indians, collection of tribute and relations between the Spaniards and the Indians in the Valley of Mexico.
