Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection was amassed by Jere Krakow as he was researching and preparing to write a history of the Fred Harvey Company. The materials include Krakow’s research, records from the Fred Harvey Company and its subsequent owner, Amfac, as well as papers from other sources, including Harvey family members. The collection, arranged in 5 series, consists of original and photocopied materials.

Jere Krakow Research: Primarily background materials, correspondence, notes, logistics, including papers written by Krakow and others on topics relating to the Fred Harvey Company, railroads, Harvey Girls, Harvey Houses.

“Fred Harvey and the American West” (film by Gary DeWalt): Film proposal, treatment, research, including correspondence from people/employees formerly associated with Fred Harvey operations.

Harvey Family: Biographical information, family tree, personal and legal documents, materials from family scrapbooks and from family members.

Fred Harvey Company Records: Board of Directors meeting minutes, correspondence, stock related materials, payroll and financial ledgers, ephemera/memorabilia relating to the Fred Harvey Company and its connection to the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. Includes Daggett Harvey Jr., Harold Schweizer, J. F. Huckel correspondence.

Fred Harvey v. Harvey House: Legal documents and correspondence from copyright/trademark infringement case.
