Wilbert and Vedna Hunt and Family, 1959-1994

 File — Box: 2, Folder: 11

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection consists of photographs taken at the time of the "Courthouse Raid" in Tierra Amarilla, NM. Included are photographs of principals in these events, including land grant activist Reies Lopez Tijerina and other members of the Alianza Federal de Mercedes, as well as law enforcement, and National Forest Service employees.

A 2014 addition (folder 12) contains slides taken in 1977 of Reies Lopez Tijerina, Ubaldo Velasquez, Emilio Naranjo, Moises Morales, Pedro Archuleta, and Tony Anaya. In this folder the slides show some of the men revisiting old sites, such as where the secret meeting was held, a clinical, and a mural of Morty Simon and Tony Lopez.

A 2018 addition to the collection contains photographs and slides accumulated by Nabokov from the Hunt family and other sources, while researching his publications, Origin Myth of Acoma Pueblo and How the world moves: the odyssey of an American Indian family (2015). The majority of the images focus on the Hunt family: Edward P. (Chief Day Break) Hunt, Clyde (Chief Sunny Skies) Hunt, Henry Wayne (Wolf Robe) Hunt, and Wilbert (Blue Sky Eagle) Hunt, and Acoma Pueblo. There are also 2 folders relating to Nabokov's earlier publication, Indian running (1981). The collection consists of original photographs, copy prints, post cards, slides, and photographic images on DVD.
