Identified portraits: groups, 1872 - 1939
File — Box: 2, Folder: 11
Scope and Content
From the Collection:
Collection includes photographs of Governor Miguel Antonio Otero, his family, and friends. There are many portraits of prominent New Mexicans, notably politicians, on card mounts, and autographed portraits of Theodore and Franklin D. Roosevelt and William McKinley. Events depict political parades and campaigns, including Pres. Theodore Roosevelt's inauguration. Among the buildings are: the Otero residence and the Gov.'s Mansion in Santa Fe (1939), the old State Capitol (1908), and postcards of UNM buildings by Laura Gilpin. A snapshot album contains pictures of the Otero family in New Mexico and in Panama, including game fishing. One group of pictures deals with the saga of Billy the Kid, and includes people and places relevant to his story. The two color negatives are of Billy's spurs and knife. Many regional photographic studios are represented; these and studios in other parts of the U.S. may be identified from the card mounts.
