KUNM Election Coverage 10/1996 with Cindy Simmons: Gittleman, Beam, Anderson, 3-23-93
File — Box: 10, Audiotape: 3
Scope and Contents
This tape contains five shows. The first three shows are individual profiles of the candidates starting with Jeff Gittleman, followed by Gail Beam, and finally Bob Anderson. The seat the candidates are running for was vacated by Cisco McSorley who gave up the district to run for Senate. Each profile includes background of candidates, the issues they are emphasizing and how they believe they stand apart from one another. Also provides a small profile of district 18 and the regions it includes (UNM, stretch of Central and up to Kirtland Air Force Base). The fourth show is also on KUNM. It provides two minutes of airtime for each candidate and they each summarize they're platforms. This is a good tape to listen to as it provides concise biographical information and the issues most important to the candidates. The fifth show also on KUNM is about the Green Party becoming an alternative third party in New Mexico. It is also a broader discussion on third parties in general: how third party messages are incorporated into the major political parties, and the issue of money as a tool to help solve issues focused on by third parties. This show was opened up to callers.
