KUNM Report on House District 18 with Cindy Simmons, 11-14-96

 File — Box: 10, Audiotape: 2

Scope and Contents

This report covers the 1996 campaign for the NM State House of Representatives seat in district 18. Simmons states that district 18 is very liberal and voters have a choice between Democrat Gail Beam, Green Bob Anderson, or Independent Jeff Gittleman. She discusses how district 18 was one district the Greens could theoretically take but cites Beam and Gittleman who accuse Anderson of going too far with scare tactics. Simmons talks about Anderson accusing Gittleman of being part of a communist organization and discusses Gittleman's response to that accusation. She also talks about how Beam could benefit from Gittleman's and Anderson's attacks on one another and touches on Beam's response to Anderson's representation of her as anti-teacher and homophobic.
