Green Party Open House,, 8/96: Bob Anderson, Jack Urich, Roberto Mondragon

 File — Box: 8, Videotape: 4

Scope and Contents

This is a video of a cookout at the Peace and Justice Center in Albuquerque to rally support for Green Party Candidates. Each candidate took a turn talking about the office they are running for and their platform and goals: Jack Urich (Running for Congress) His platform is economic rights and sustainability. He ran on a livable wage campaign and aimed to fight for a new economic bill of rights and a new informational bill of rights. Bob Anderson (Running for State Representative Candidate, District 18) Talked abut campaigning to democratize the University of New Mexico. He argued that public education has been turned over to the private sector and has been corporatized, which affects what's being taught, who comes to UNM and who has access to education. Roberto Mondragon (Santa Fe State Legislature Candidate) Talked about the political system in general in the U.S. arguing that people are not given the opportunity at conventions, particularly the Democratic convention to talk about issues, put together a platform, or decide between different candidates. He argued that people in general are feeling frustrated and disenchanted and unwilling to vote and he sees the Green Party as a chance to reinvigorate people and re-involve them in the political system.
