Letter, December 31, 1932.

 Item — Folder: 1

Scope and Content

From the Collection: This holograph letter dated December 31, 1932 from Reverend Salvador Genéto Mrs. E. C. Lee of Española lists people in need from the Santa Cruz Parish. Gené gives the names of 23 individuals from Cordova or Quemado, New Mexico saying they need flour, lard, coffee, shoes and overalls for the children. Cordova, 14 miles east of Española was known as El Pueblo Quemado before the post office was established in 1900. The predominant occupation in this area was agriculture supplemented with seasonal employment outside the area. During the Depression opportunities in seasonal employment declined and the majority of rural northern New Mexico families received some form of federal relief.
