Selected transcriptions from Ledger, 1919-1934

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 2

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection contains original records of the Acequia de Abajo, or Acequia de Corrales, Precinct 2, Sandoval County. The main component of the collection is a ledger containing the mayordomo's journal and timelines, and the treasurers' ledger from 1919-1934. The mayordomo was, according to acequia regulations, to make full written reports of the money received and expended. The treasurer was then to present these reports to the Corrales Acequia Association. The journal provides insight into the cleaning and maintenance of the acequia, as well as documenting who the landowners were and how much irrigable land they owned. In addition to the original ledger, there are photocopies of the entire ledger as well as selected transcriptions from the journal. The transcriptions were made by José A. Rivera while researching his book, Acequia Culture: Water, Land and Community in the Southwest.

The collection is in Spanish.
