This small collection contains papers of Santiago Wallace, a justice of the peace in San Miguel County, New Mexico. Wallace served in San Miguel's 20th precinct during the late 1890s. The papers relate to financial records and legal business of the precinct. Included are expense reports, a prisoner release form, and some correspondence. There are also two undated items announcing a teaching exam to be given in San Miguel. Finally, there are some undated miscellaneous papers. These include a 1868 document certifying the books of a San Miguel County magistrate, an undated agricultural labor contract from Otero County, and a 1915 letter written to an Abel S. Wallace
